Silhouette Studio Sticky Notes Tool: Intro and Tutorial

Silhouette Studio V4.1 now includes a long requested new feature: sticky notes. 

 
Sticky notes allow you to easily add notes to any Silhouette Studio work area when working in Silhouette Studio V4.1 or higher.  (Not sure which version of Silhouette Studio you are using? Here's how to check.) You can add notes about the font you used in your design, whether the design is personal or commercial use, the distance of the offset, the best cut settings for a certain material, or anything else you want to remind yourself about. 

Silhouette Studio Save as SVG Export Errors (And How to Fix Them!)

If you're getting an error when trying to save as an SVG from Silhouette Studio V4.1 (or higher), there are a number of reasons why.

The option to save as an SVG directly from Silhouette Studio was released in Silhouette Studio V4.1 but with a couple of caveats.  Here are a few reasons why you may be having trouble saving as an SVG....and how to fix the errors.

The highly anticipated Silhouette Studio V4.1 is now fully released and out of Beta. It's listed on the Silhouette America website as the current version of the software.  So should you update to V4.1 (and how do you update your Silhouette Studio software)?

When 4.1 was released in beta I suggested you hold off on updating to it despite all the attractive new features.  Fast forward to now, five weeks later, and V4.1 has proven itself to be not only the most stable version of the software, but also the Silhouette Studio software version offering the most attractive features.

Custom Printed Vinyl Decals: Silhouette Pixscan Tutorial Hack

You guys this might be my best idea yet...and for those of you who sell, make lots of the color vinyl decals or layered htv design, or just don't care to layer lots and lots of vinyl and HTV decals - this Silhouette tutorial hack is going to leave you speechless.

I've figured out a way to print any design multiple times on a single sheet of Oracal 651 vinyl and then cut out each of the designs to create individual decals.  Whether you run a Silhouette business or not, this is a huge time, material, and money saver for anyone who needs to create multiple copies of the same custom vinyl decals.

Think about if you had a large order of tumblers, mugs, or shirts that all had the same decal design which required a lot of layering. Or perhaps you have a popular seller that slows you down because it's time consuming to cut and layer each one. With this hack you could have several custom vinyl decals printed on the same sheet of vinyl and then you could just cut them all at the same time and apply the personalization quickly.

What is Kerning: Silhouette Studio Text Tutorial

In case you haven't noticed, there's an oft-overlooked tool hidden in the Text Style tool in Silhouette Studio. The Kerning feature helps adjust the spacing of text characters that might otherwise be too close together...but it's different than the character spacing tool.

Last week I shared a video on Silhouette School's Facebook page showing how to layer vinyl using registration marks created in Silhouette Studio. 

Despite the transparent vinyl which gave me all the heart eyes, many people seemed to see past the stained glass vinyl decal design and focus on the amount of wasted vinyl.  I have to admit - you're not wrong (although did you see that transparent vinyl - OH EM GEE!!).

The problem is there's really no way around wasting some vinyl, if you want to create multi color vinyl decals with Silhouette without gaps.  But there are ways to reduce the amount of waste.
