If you're pre-cutting a lot of heat transfer vinyl - filling orders, making stock, or making an elaborate design with lots of colors - it can get tricky to store the HTV before you apply to the surface. It's not always time efficient to cut and apply immediately.
Since nobody wants dust bunnies, hair or pet fur stuck to their sticky heat transfer vinyl transfer sheets...it's best not to lay it on the floor or stick it to a place where it's at risk for falling on the floor.

Automatic Library Back Ups in Silhouette Studio V4.2 (Snapshots Tutorial)
Thursday, January 24, 2019
Silhouette Studio V4.2 was released last week and it includes a hidden feature that quickly went to the top of my favorite software feature list.
Silhouette Studio V4.2 has an automatic and built in library backup which means even if you're not consistent about manually backing up your library - there's a safety net.

Beginner Silhouette Print and Cut Tutorial for V4 (Free Silhouette Design File)
Sunday, September 23, 2018
Silhouette Print and Cut is one of the most popular - but intimidating - ways to use the Silhouette cutting machines. With the May 2017 release of Silhouette Studio V4 it's become even more confusing because most of the print and cut tutorials are in old versions of the software.
For that reason I thought it was worth sharing an updated version of the Print and Cut with Silhouette CAMEO tutorial for beginners for those just starting out with Silhouette Studio V4 or those transitioning over! If you're learning to print and cut in Silhouette Studio V3 (aka your software looks different than what you see here) check out this beginner CAMEO tutorial.

Organizing Patterns into Sub-Folders in the Silhouette Studio Library
Wednesday, July 19, 2017
I use Silhouette Studio every day and yet there are still features I come across that I didn't know existed.
For example a few weeks ago I realized I could add sub-folders to the Patterns folder in my library and sort my imported patterns however I wanted! Mind blown.

How to Use Silhouette Studio V4 Trace by Color
Tuesday, May 2, 2017
The new Trace by Color feature in Silhouette Studio V4 is perhaps one of the biggest attractions to the new version of the software. It certainly makes tracing multi-color images much, much easier and it's likely to push many to upgrade to Designer Edition.
For example let's say you buy one of those fabulous commercial use graphic and font bundles from Craft Bundles. If you import the PNGs for these designs - tracing can take quite a bit of time and manipulation. But with Trace by Color it's as simple as click-click-click.

Wednesday, January 25, 2017
Is there anyone who doesn't love a scratch off? I recently picked up some of the Silhouette Scratch Off Sticker Sheets and couldn't wait to put them to the test with my Silhouette CAMEO cutting machine.
They're a fun little surprise that are perfect for things like baby reveals or discount codes maybe even an advent calendar. I decided to use the scratch off sticker sheets as a way to incentivize my kiddos....for things like chores around the house and random acts of kindness (RAK). And I'm sharing the basic printable Silhouette Studio design with you so you can try it out!

Upcycle Old Silhouette Cutting Mats into Re-Usable Stencils
Monday, January 9, 2017
Don't throw out those old Silhouette cutting mats...they make awesome re-usable stencils! We all need to get new cutting mats for our Silhouette CAMEO or Portrait every once in a while - but instead of throwing out the old ones or struggling to clean and re-stick them, do what you've never wanted to do before and intentionally cut through Silhouette cutting mat.
While the sticky side of the mat may not be sticky enough to hold vinyl or paper or other material in place while you're cutting, it likely has a little stick left. And that stick is just enough to hold a stencil in place while painting on fabric or another surface! The back side of the mat is easily cleanable which means you can wipe off paint and re-use the stencil over and over again!

Top 10 Silhouette School Behind the Scenes Secrets
Thursday, December 29, 2016
As we continue Top 10 week here on Silhouette School, I thought you might enjoy a few secrets from behind the scenes. Let's be honest there's a whole lot that you, the readers, don't see.
You see the best photos that have been edited, cropped and re-touched. You see the Silhouette tutorial with perfect cut settings - not the 14 cuts it took me to find those perfect cut settings. You see my office looking neat, styled and orderly - not the hurricane that just went through my craft room as I worked through crafting, photographing and then editing three projects at the same time for the blog.
And since I know there's a lot of curiosity about what it takes to run a blog (with your husband) - especially one that's a full time gig for both of us - I figured I'd give you a little insight.

Thursday, November 10, 2016
Today we're going back to the fundamentals of using Silhouette Studio... how to install Silhouette Studio for PC. This is for both brand new Silhouette CAMEO beginners and for users who want or need to upgrade their software to a newer version.
Knowing how to locate and install an update for Silhouette Studio is very useful, especially if you are new to the Silhouette world. All new users will also need to install Silhouette Studio before they are able to use their new Silhouette cutting machine.
Silhouette Print and Cut Registration Failed on Glossy Paper? Here's the Fix!
Tuesday, October 11, 2016
If you've ever tried to do a Silhouette Print and Cut on glossy, pearlized, foil or shiny paper only to have the registration fail - fear not! Do I have a Silhouette CAMEO hack for you!
The print and cut problem is potentially threefold:

The print and cut problem is potentially threefold:
- The glossy-ness of the paper causes the rollers to slip and actually grab - and then print on - the piece of paper below the sticker paper in the printer tray
- The glossy-ness of the paper prevents the printer rollers from grabbing the paper at the right time therefore printing the registration marks too high on the page
- The glare caused by the glossy paper prevents the machine from properly reading the registration marks.
How NOT to Check for Silhouette Studio Updates
Tuesday, September 27, 2016
I'm just gonna be blunt about it because I've written and then deleted the start of this tutorial about 67 times so far. The "Check for Updates" feature in the Silhouette Studio is basically useless. There...I said it.
If you're running Silhouette Studio and you're relying on that little feature to make sure you're running the latest version of Silhouette Studio - you're making a huge mistake. It doesn't work the large majority of the time.

Check Your Silhouette Studio Version Now: How and Why!
Wednesday, September 21, 2016
It's always a good idea to know what version of Silhouette Studio you're running. This is especially important when there's an update to the software, a problem with feature or tool not appearing or a known bug in the software - since there are so many Silhouette Studio versions.
