Silhouette CAMEO Sticker Tutorial for Beginners

Making stickers with Silhouette is really no different than Silhouette print and cut...instead of printing and cutting on paper, you're printing and cutting on sticker sheets!

And just like print and cut, once you make your first set of stickers, you'll be hooked!!!

How (and Why) to use a Graphtec CB09 Blade with Silhouette CAMEO or Portrait

Looking for a Silhouette blade alternative that can cut smaller designs or text cleanly? I'm not taking about a sketch pen or an embossing tip - I'm talking about a cutting blade that cuts materials much like the way a Silhouette CAMEO or Portrait blade does - only, some would argue, better.

Perhaps you're looking for a longer lasting cutting blade or a cheaper alternative to Silhouette brand blades or blade that can deep cut.  One of the most popular alternatives to the Silhouette ratchet blade is the Graphtec CB09 blade also called a Carbide blade.

Best Cleaner for Screen Printing Screens

I love to screen print with vinyl and heat transfer vinyl...but if you're not fast enough to clean your screen the paint can dry on the screen and/or stain it.

When this happens, the dried paint can end up with blocking bits of the screen...and no amount of soap, water and scrubbing will get it off. I was on a mission NOT to fully replace my screen and instead salvage it.

Deco Gel Transfer Gel and Foil Review and Silhouette Tutorial

Tell me I am not the only who one has to try out their new crafting toys like now?!  I just got my hands on some of these brand new Deco Foil Transfer Gel. It was barely out of my mail lady's hands and I had the box open and the wheels were spinning on how I could use it with Silhouette!

As we've talked about before - you can't craft foil with your Silhouette CAMEO machine - it's just too thin.  But...the Deco Foil Transfer Gel is a brand new product from ThermoWeb - the same company behind Heat N Bond and the pretty Deco Foils.

5 Tips for Cutting Silhouette Double-Sided Adhesive (and a Silhouette CAMEO Beginners Tutorial)

You know when you email me and tell me you were just about to throw your machine out the window and then one of my tutorials helped talk you off the ledge? Yeah, well that was me trying to cut Silhouette brand double-sided adhesive sheets. GRRRRPPHHHHH if you heard that noise it was me!

Seriously that stuff gave me a run for my money! But now that I've got it figured out I'm going to share them with you so you don't end up making those weird animal-like noises too and scaring your children out of a nap.

Now, I've built Silhouette School on just being real with ya. And if that means I gotta give a big ol' thumbs down to something well...then that's just the way it's gonna be.  That being said - there's definitely a lot to be said for "user error" -  in this case I'm the user.  So while I made a whole lot of not-nice noises through the process I'm happy to report with some tweaks of a few settings, I finally made it work with what I found to be the not-so-user-friendly Silhouette Double Sided Adhesive Sheets.

Silhouette Hack: Easiest Way to Add Vinyl to Tumblers, Mugs, Glasses & Bottles

As if it's not difficult enough to get vinyl or labels straight when adding to wine glasses, bottles and buckets and the like! If you're like me, you end up struggling even more while said object slips around in your lap as you try to grip it with your knees.  Don't even laugh you know you've been there.  But now I might just have the Silhouette hack of all hacks for you - meet the Crafters Cradle!

Top 10 Silhouette-Related Accessories and Craft Items to Pass On

In the two years that I've been blogging on Silhouette School I've purchased and reviewed a lot of items and I always, always, always give my honest opinion. The Best Heat Transfer Vinyl on Dri Fit and Other Athletic Gear is....

HTV, heat transfer vinyl, dri fit, athletic gear, workout clothes
I'm pretty sure you guys are all talking behind my back telling each other to email me and ask what kind of heat transfer to put on Dri Fit.  No? Well it feels like I've been getting a ton of questions about the best type of HTV for athletic apparel so I figured I'd just do a tutorial on it.

You can certainly try the less expensive Siser Easyweed HTV, but I would really recommend you instead go for the Premium Heat Transfer vinyl from Expressions Vinyl.  It has super stretchability, an ultra-matte finish and a soft, thin texture that almost melts into the fabric. There's no stiffness or bulk at all.

I sacrificed one of my favorite (perfectly good) black workout tanks for this project. I even asked my 4 year old what design I should put on it and he said a skull.  And so...you're welcome!

Sharpening a Silhouette Blade: Cutting Foil to Extend the Life of a Blade

Silhouette, Silhouette blade, sharpening, cut foil, cutting foil
A few months ago I put the foil ball method for sharpening a Silhouette blade to the test.  Let's just say I wasn't too impressed as I went into detail on here.  It make sense that cutting foil with the blade  which is why I decided on another method.  This time instead of balling up the aluminum foil and poking the blade in and out of it I actually cut the foil with the blade.

I'm just going to put this out there right off the bat - sharpen your blade at your own risk.  I would honestly just recommend you buy a new cutting blade if you're sure it's a dull blade that's causing your cutting issues. But if you'd rather not spend the $8 on a new blade every 4-6 months, then carry on.

Rip off a sheet of foil from the roll about the same size as the Silhouette cutting mat. It's already 12" wide so you just need to cut a piece that's about 12" long too.  Stick it right onto the mat trying to make it as smooth and wrinkle-free as possible.
