I recently shared a quick video on the Silhouette School Facebook page showing a vinyl weeding technique I called "BandAid Method"...for obvious reasons. And from the sound of the collective gasp, you all lost.your.minds.
This technique where you quickly rip off the excess vinyl around the cut design, rather than slowly pulling away the negative, has also been called Snap Weeding. Some also suggest "Waxing Method" might be most appropriate. I'll let you decide.

How to Set Up a Foil and Cut in Silhouette Studio with Foil Quill (Free Practice Design)
Monday, March 11, 2019
Did you know you can add foil accents to your vinyl decals?!
The Foil Quill - which started shipping from certain retailers, including Swing Design, last week makes adding foil to adhesive vinyl - like Oracal 651 and 631 - very easy with the Silhouette. While this foil and cut tutorial is geared toward vinyl, the foil and cut process works the same for other materials as well.

I get a lot of questions about whether or not you should seal vinyl. Personally, I never seal vinyl, but that doesn't mean there's never a reason to.
Silhouette School contributor Becky Dykes from MyPaper Craze is back this week to share details on the best way to seal vinyl...and when it may be necessary to!

Cutting Large Vinyl Decals with Silhouette (Part 1 of 2)
Monday, October 12, 2015
I've been asked time and time again how to cut and apply large vinyl decals created in Silhouette Studio. I've discussed how to create oversized stencils and shared how to apply wall decals, but today I'm going to combine the two to hopefully make this as easy a process as possible for you.
Awhile back I asked you all what type of large vinyl decal I should put up to demo this tutorial and it was a pretty evenly split between a tree and a monogram. I'm gonna be honest here - I am not a huge fan of wall decals. BUT for the good of the blog and all you fine, people I decided I'd go with the monogram in my daughter's room.
To start open up Silhouette Studio. At this point just work on the 12x12 virtual mat, don't worry about making this thing ginormous - yet. If you don't already have a design for your wall decal, create it or open it from the library or purchase from the Silhouette Design Store.

Designing something like this takes a few steps, but nothing you can't handle...promise!
Of course, I could just give you the design, but honestly what fun is that? I'm trying to help teach you how to use the Silhouette Studio software and your machine and this tutorial is a great example of how learning the basics can really help you. As you'll see this tutorial builds off soooo many previous lessons covered on Silhouette School: tracing, replicating, aligning, edit points, offset, welding, compound paths, PicMonkey designs, thickening fonts, modifying and subtracting...all to achieve the final design! Sound intimidating? It's not...promise!

How to Faux Etch Glass, Mirrors and More with Vinyl
Wednesday, August 6, 2014
Etching is like the new black. It's in. But here's the thing, while I like to etch glass and I love the look of etched glass, there are just some glass surfaces that I'm not 100% sure I want to permanently etch...and that's what happens when you use etching cream. There's no going back.
Enter etched glass vinyl! Yes...etch vinyl. It gives the look of etched glass, but without the commitment since it's vinyl and can be removed eventually.
