How to Export Library in Silhouette Studio V3 Cloud

The Silhouette Studio V3 Cloud version of the software has been the most significant change to the software since the upgrade from V2 to V3 in 2014. I am hearing a lot of grumblings about changes and features that were taken away - namely the ability to export, backup or save the Silhouette Studio Library.

While it's true, there was a change to the way you export the Silhouette Studio library, it's not true users no longer have the ability to do so.  In earlier versions of Silhouette Studio V3, users would go to the File menu and click Export Library to backup their library files.  (A full tutorial on how to move the Silhouette Studio library can be found here).

In the Silhouette Studio Cloud version, however, that option is no longer found under the File menu....but it hasn't disappeared completely!

If you right click on the Local User folder of your library you will find the Export Option.  When you do so you are given the same pop up box to name your library and save it to your computer or a hard drive. This will save all of your designs that are NOT on the cloud.

If you want to export, move or backup the Silhouette Studio files that are on the Cloud, you'd need to repeat the process by right clicking on the Cloud folder and click "Export (email address)" and save the library to your hard drive.

To import or re-import files into your Silhouette Studio library, you'd go to File > Library > Import Library (careful not to pick Import TO Library.)

  2. How can I see all of my files in my folders? I can see some of them when i click on local user and others when i click out of local user. They aren't all together though. I want to see all of my files at once...not by clicking all files, but by looking in my folders

  4. I have done some research with Silhouette America. Most concerns are just a misunderstanding of the clunky way they implemented this cloud storage.
    So here goes:
    1. All of your designs which came with your machine will download to the LOCAL area and can NOT be moved to the CLOUD area.
    2. All of your Sil. Store Purchases will be placed in the CLOUD area and can NOT be moved to the LOCAL area.
Any user created designs, including those purchased from outside vendors, will be placed in LOCAL area initially. They can be moved to the CLOUD area or back to the LOCAL area, depending on if you want them to be available to any of your other 5 permitted devices.
You get unlimited storage for purchased designs from Sil. Store. This is likely because they will only store a tiny snippet of code which points to their library of Sil. Store files. Essentially hundreds of code snippets take up less space than one design file.
User designs will be copied to their server and consume your allotted storage space( of which you can buy more if needed.)
The design files in your LOCAL area and your CLOUD area all reside on your computer (or device). They are not available to your other devices.
The files in your CLOUD area can be made available to any of your other 5 allowed devices.
Whew! That is a lot of stuff for one comment.

      This should read:

  7. I am a bit nervous about upgrading since I have oodles of files. I taught a class this weekend and a couple of the students had the version of the software that was right before yesterdays. (the first cloud version). The drag and drop function of adding images to the pattern library was no longer available from what we could tell. There was a new import to library function but the jpgs didn't end up in the pattern library the ended up under the regular library not the pattern library. Anyways I understand there is a new version as of yesterday. Once the silhouette site is back up I'll check on the version notes.

  8. Hi! So I'm new with all of this (just received and installed my Curio/Silhouette studio yesterday) and I'm finding it very frustrating! I upgraded the software immediately after installing from CD. The 50 free designs are nowhere to be found. How do I recover them?

    1. @angelastamps - I saw a comment on a different post where someone was having a similar issue. I don't know if this will solve your problem but it may be worth a try (if you're still trying since you posted in May and now it's August :-) What she did was to go into Settings: Options: De-register Device. That brought her to a screen that allowed her to log back in and then things were working. Good luck!

  11. I don't know if you read these comments, but so many Silhouette users on Facebook still go to your post on the old way to 'export' and back up files. It would be helpful if you could update that post to link to this post. Thank you.

  13. I always add the date to the file name when saving my library as I don't want to overrite and/or lose a library. Unless you change the name, you will be saving the file over the old library file. I just find I don't want to risk what is happening here to folks. I don't know if this is right, but I would rather have an "extra" library file. What's your thoughts on this?

  14. I have a "local user" file and a "myemail" file. Any way to merge the two? I'd really like them to be together.

  15. I just updated my software. I'm a new user and don't use my Cameo a lot yet. Anyway, it shows the local and cloud libraries. I keep reading that the files I got from Silhouette will be in the cloud library and the any personal designs or those from other designers will be in local. Also, I read that I can move my personal files to the cloud up to 1GB.
The problem: My silhouette files are mixed between the two and I can't get any of my personal deigns (or others) to move over to the cloud. I really am not interested in searching thru two libraries every time I want to find something. Any answers?
Also, I read that to move them to the cloud? or open in the new version? they must be updated. So I click on the button to update and it never completes. I just keep getting multiple duplicates that I've already trashed back in the library. Not sure what's going on there.
Thanks in advance for any help!

  16. I just followed your directions on exporting my library to an external hard drive. I have a new computer, I installed the Sil software and followed your direction for importing from my external hard drive. I initially had 483 items in my Local user library and on the new computer, there are only 161. The cloud library worked just fine. What could be happening with all of my files? So many missing

  17. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! It was going to take forever for me to wait for my files to download from the cloud. This was quick and simple. I love your blog! Whenever I search in google for a question, the answer is always in your blog. And if I see that your blog has the solution, I know it will be dependable and correct.

  18. This just doesn't work,.. under local user the files are not showing up at all. I hate that they took away the export button. This shouldn't be that hard!

  19. I had a horrible, horrible time with this. I had backed up my files as instructed here (twice - just to be sure). When I went to load them after the upgrade, it says BOTH files were corrupt. I ended up having to start from SCRATCH - 10K designs that had ZERO file structure. I was livid. Then I created a Halloween folder and did a search of my designs by "Halloween" and tried to move them all to the folder. My system crashed every single time. I reported this over and over and over till I felt like I was just beating a dead horse - I even submitted screenshots, invited them to link into my computer. Finally one rep admitted that they didn't expect folks to do this (sort and move multiple files from recent downloads to separate folders) so they were "fixing" the problem. It is fixed now so I assume they did that over the last 6 months. NOW, I still have an issue where my library is missing files. They show up as "download failed - retry" which I have done (the retry). I ended up going through my purchase history and found the files that didn't download and they are no longer available on line - obviously this is not a good thing (I wonder if this is the reason behind my "corrupt" files where I lost my entire file structure (grrrrrrrr)). Some of the design numbers were 44362, 44364, 44128, etc (there were over 30 of them). They FINALLY (I say it in caps because they act like I am an idiot until I provide proof of the issues) admitted that there was an issue, gave me some free designs and said their team was working on it. That was June 14 and it still isn't fixed. I think long term the cloud is a good thing. I use it on my cricut. I use it on my Microsoft files and my one drive. I am not afraid of it. But too much went wrong on this conversion for me to be very happy with how it was handled. I still haven't finished sorting through my 10k of files and putting them in the file structure as near as I can remember it being before, but I do like being able to access it from multiple computers. I did learn that the files that came with your cameo (like the cameo faceplate (from the cameo 1, I think) did not convert over - they are considered "personal" files and will show up when you plug your machine back in... if you have it??? I haven't upgraded my machine until I feel that Silhouette is going to fix all of this.

  21. My library now shows just the name of the design the image does not show. If I click on the design it will not download into the design page. My library shows that I own so many designs the only thing to load is the free designs. I have spent the whole day on chat with Silhouette now they are closed and telling me the server is down. Any solutions. I have tried to recover download items nothing.
