Trace lines that are not smooth create jagged cut lines, which is why it's important to smooth trace lines in Silhouette Studio before you cut. This tutorial will explain how to smooth out Silhouette trace lines.

When you are tracing in Silhouette Studio you can sometimes get trace lines that are not smooth.  This can be caused by several different factors.

How Do I Smooth Trace Lines in Silhouette Studio While Tracing?

If you can see jagged edges while tracing, you'll want to increase the Scale to try to smooth out the trace lines during the tracing process.

But sometimes even when the trace looks smooth, you can get cut lines that will end up really jagged. This is caused by an excessive number of edit points. It will cause the Silhouette CAMEO or Portrait to cut really slowly and it will cause cut lines that are not smooth.

How Do I Smooth Trace Lines in Silhouette Studio After Tracing?

To check if you have trace lines that need to be smooth, move the original image out of the way and then double click on the trace line after you've traced.

If you see A LOT of edit points like in this example you will want to try to smooth them out.

You'll notice when you double click a design to show the edit points, the Point Editing panel will automatically open.

From there you will want to click the "Simplify" option. That will reduce the number of edit points, thus smoothing out the cut lines.

You can sometimes click "Simplify" several times to continue to reduce the number of edit points. Just be careful not to remove so many edit points that you distort the shape of your design.
