Borderless Printing from Silhouette Studio (Yes, It's Possible!)

You know what's awesome? When you're printing DIY patterned vinyl and you can print edge to edge from Silhouette Studio!

Not only do you avoid the white border around the printable vinyl sheet, but you also maximize your printable - and therefore cuttable - area.

Start in Silhouette Studio by opening the Page Set Up panel and changing the Page Size to "Current Printer."

Check the box for Print border so you see the gray line.  As it is here, the area outside the print border will NOT print.  We are going to change that.

Go to File > Print Page Setup.

A box will pop up. If you have multiple printers, make sure you select one from the top box. Then click to get the drop down menu for Paper Size.

If you are printing on material that is 8.5 x 11 - such as Oracal Printable Vinyl, Inkjet Printable HTV, cardstock or copy paper - pick US Letter Borderless.

Close your print settings and you'll see that the gray Print Border has disappeared - actually it has just moved to the edge of the page.

Now just draw a rectangle shape the same size as the page, fill with a digital pattern from the Fill Pattern tool (the majority of the patterns shown in this post are from this Pattern pack) and you will be able to print edge to edge from Silhouette Studio!  I use this inkjet printer with Silhouette.

Borderless printing is ideal if you are printing your own patterned vinyl or patterned HTV which is what I did here!

    1. Karen, try the clicking on the printer icon described in the comment below. I, too, have a Canon and there is a borderless setting--you just can't print it as a tshirt transfer

  6. I can do Borderless Printing by clicking on the printer icon on the top left of the silhouette screen. This brings up my printer menu were I click on "Preference" which brings up a "Lay/out and Paper Quality" menu. At the bottom of this screen I have an "Advanced" menu. When I click on that I click on "Borderless Printing/Print with Border" and that brings up another menu were I choose "Borderless Printing" and click on "OK" and then "OK" again. This brings me back to the beginning and at the bottom of the screen I click on "Apply".

  7. Are you printing this with just a regular printer or with a sublimination printer? I have both but I feel the sublimination printer would be more cost effective? Thoughts?

  10. My borders keep growing. I start with a Portrait project but it has landscape borders. So I go to page setup and switch to portrait. Now I have about 2 inch borders. So I try switching back to landscape and then back to portrait. Now my borders are 3 inches. Once again, I switch to landscape and back to portrait. Now I have 4 inch borders. I only way I have found to get small borders again is to close Studio and reopen it. Now I have about a quarter inch border which is good for me. How do I reset the borders without closing Studio?
