How to Turn Off Automatic Silhouette Studio Updates (and Why You Should)

It's likely that at some point when you launched Silhouette Studio you got a pop up box prompting you to update your Silhouette Studio software.

I'm warning you now: never click it! In fact, my suggestion is to turn those software update pop up prompts off completely so you don't accidentally click it.  This Silhouette tutorial will show you how..and explain why!

The first thing you should know is if that pop up box prompting you to update your software appears, always, always, always click "Later." This will prevent the update from launching.

The reason you don't want to launch the update is because it never works. It will freeze your software and your computer.  Instead, you always want to update directly from the Silhouette America website!

The problem is not everyone fully reads the pop up box and just to get it to go away they click "Install." That actually launches the Silhouette Studio software update. And that is how you end up on a version of Silhouette Studio - like beta - where you don't want to be.

The best thing to do to avoid this is totally turn off the software update prompts. You can do that right in Silhouette Studio.

Click the Preferences tool in the bottom right hand corner of the software. It looks like a little gear.

Select the Updates tab to open up the selections.

The default is to check for update Weekly.

You want to change this to "Never."

Click "OK" to save your preferences.

Now YOU can decide when you want to update the Silhouette software and when you do you'll want to go directly to the Silhouette America software page to do so and also follow the steps in this Silhouette tutorial.
