Silhouette CAMEO Not Cutting Completely or Correctly (Packet Size)

Is your Silhouette CAMEO not cutting completely or cutting odd lines?  There's a default setting you can change that may just fix the issue.

The Packet Size setting is buried deep within the advanced preferences, but knowing how to find it and what to adjust can make all the difference in your cuts.

Changing the packet size setting is not a solution if your CAMEO 3, 4, or 5 is or is not cutting through your material completely. For Silhouette Autoblade cutting issues issues go here.

It's also not a solution if Silhouette Studio is slow or crashing.

When Should I Adjust the Silhouette Studio Packet Size Setting?

But this settings change is a good place to start if only part of your design is cutting or your machine seems to be stuttering or slow due to the amount of data being sent.

Other reasons to try adjust the Packet Size would be if you're getting stray lines through your cuts or if your machine stops cutting partially through the project.

If you're experiencing any of those types of cutting issues, adjust the Packet Size.

What is Silhouette Studio Packet Size?

The packet size is basically how much information is being sent from your computer and Silhouette Studio to your Silhouette CAMEO or Portrait. Adjusting it can improve performance during cutting..it will not improve actual cutting.

First thing you want to do is find the Packet Size setting.  Click the small gear in the bottom right corner of Silhouette Studio to open the Preferences.

Click on the Advanced tab.

You'll see the Packet Size option there with a drop down. The default setting is 1000 bytes of information.  To reduce the Packet Size and improve performance, change the setting to 500 bytes.

This slows the rate of data that's being sent from the computer to the cutting machine helping to avoid the CAMEO or Portrait from glitching due to being overwhelmed.

To save the setting, click Ok and close the Preferences window.

If Silhouette Studio itself is responding slowly, is sluggish or is processing for a long time, the potential fix for that does not involve the Packet Size, but this tutorial should help speed up the Silhouette software or stop it from crashing.
