Silhouette Sheet Feeder: Everything to Know

Silhouette America announced the upcoming release of the long-awaited Silhouette Sheet feeder today and with it the first look at the add-on accessory and the opening of pre-orders.

The two different size sheet feeders are compatible with the CAMEO 4 machines and the Portrait 3 and allow for up to 20 printed sheets to be stacked and then automatically fed into the cutting machine for cutting.

Unfortunately despite my trying it's been impossible to get my hands on one of the sheet feeders prior to the launch so I can't yet give you a first hand look or review, but I can tell you everything I know about the new Silhouette sheet feeder and give you a first look.

Which Machines are Compatible with the Silhouette Sheet Feeder?

There are two different Auto Sheet Feeders that are available for pre-order. The Auto Sheet Feeder is compatible with the Silhouette Portrait 3 and CAMEO 4 machine. It can take 8.5" x 11 US Letter size along with A4 paper size (8.27" x 11.69")

The larger Auto Sheet Feeder A3 Plus is compatible with the 15" Silhouette CAMEO Plus and 24" Silhouette CAMEO 4 Pro. 12" wide sheets along with A3 (11x17"), A4, and 8.5" x 11" Letter size sheets can all be loaded.

While sheets of this size can be fed into the Sheet Feeder it's important to point out that the printable area is smaller to account for the safe print and cut area. This area is reduced even more when not using a cutting mat to account for the necessary margins. The max print and cut size on an 8.5x11" sheet with the Sheet feeder is about 9.35" x 7.1".

What Does the Silhouette Sheet Feeder Do?

The Silhouette Auto Sheet Feeder works like other document feeders allowing you to stack up to 20 printed sheets in the feeder which are then auto fed into the Silhouette machine to be cut.

The sheets stacked into the Sheet Feeder do not have to be the same. If you use the Silhouette Studio bar code feature you can stack sheets with different designs into the sheet feeder at the same time.

What Materials Can be Loaded into the Sheet Feeder?

Any material that can be cut without a mat can be used in the sheet feeder, according to Silhouette America. This includes cardstock, sticker paper, and printable vinyl.

Silhouette also says that the sheet feeder can be used for print and cuts, kiss cuts, pop out cuts, sketch pen designs and other jobs.

If I understand your question right, the answer is that when cutting stickers, only the adhesive layer will be cut through (kiss cut). When cuttting cardstock, it is the pop-up cut, thin "lines" will be left uncut, a bit like perforation.

I'm excited to see it in action but not holding my breath. I feel like Silhouette has not lived up to their hype with the last few releases.

Would be real fun, combined with a printer-printing a sheet and feeding it right into the plotter :D
