If you're struggling with font paralysis - as in you can't decide which font to use, you can quickly view all fonts that you have installed in Silhouette Studio!

In this Silhouette Studio text tutorial, I'll share the secret to viewing your text design with many different fonts so you can choose the perfect one!

Set-up the Text Design in Silhouette Studio

Begin by typing your text in a Silhouette Studio work area with any font you like...,you can even use the default text style.

The text design used in this Instant Pot project is the Falling Star script and serif fonts from the Script Font Bundle at So Fontsy. This is one of those must have font bundles because it can be used for any design aesthetic - whether you're making t-shirts or farmhouse home decor. With 27 total script fonts in this incredible bundle, you don't want to miss the 89% savings!

Select the text by clicking it once. This will select the text, but not put it into text editing mode. If your text design has more than one text box, select all the boxes by holding Shift on your keyboard and clicking once on each text box.

In this project, I wanted to keep the word "Pots" in the Falling Star serif font but see what other script fonts would look like for the top and bottom line. So, I selected just the top and bottom text boxes.

With the Text Style Panel open, double-click on the font name of the font in the box directly below the Text Style. This will select everything in that box, and you'll see it highlighted in blue.

Next, begin typing the name of the font you'd like to try. Using the printable PDF preview of all the fonts in the Script Font Bundle, I could easily reference the name of any script font to try. Remember fonts must be installed on your computer to show up in Silhouette Studio.

Type the name of the font you'd like to try, and as you type the name of the font it will begin to autofill into the text box and become selected in the Text Style preview area.

Nothing will change in the design area, though, until you press Enter on your keyboard. Then, the selected text boxes will then change to the new font style!

The formatting and sizing may be a little off, but you can easily and quickly fix that by using the alignment tools. More importantly, you can now see how the Bealy Beyla font looks in the design (and you didn't have to go scrolling through the entire font list searching for it!)

Repeat the same steps as above to see another script font with your design. Here I tried this cool scripty outline font, also included in the Script Font Bundle.

Unexpected Font Names

Note: There may be cases where the font name may have a prefix before it, like the designer's initials for example. This can make it a little more difficult to search for the font by typing in the font's actual name because there would be other letters and/or characters that precede the font's actual name - so the font wouldn't show up.

If this happens (it didn't happen to me with this bundle), all you need to do is go back on your computer to where you downloaded and saved the fonts. Check the exact spelling of the font file name because it's this file name that will be listed in Silhouette Studio's font list.

Preview Fonts Even Faster

There's an even faster way to switch between fonts to see what they'll look like in your text design. Like before, start by selecting the text boxes you want to change by clicking on them once.

Then, click on the name of the font currently selected in the font list. Then, use the down/up arrow keys on your keyboard to scroll through your different fonts and see them displayed in real time in the design space.

Pretty cool huh?! Once you've found that perfect font, you're now ready to finish your project. Here, this text design was cut in Oracal 651 permanent adhesive vinyl and applied to an Instant Pot.

  1. Did you know you can go to wordmark.it and all the fonts you have loaded on your PC will come up. You then type your word or phrase and you can see how it looks in all of your fonts. You just click on the font you like then after selecting several you can click on filter selected to see the side by side. I have so many fonts I find this extremely useful.

  2. Does this work on a Mac? I am having problems with it. This would be a great tool.
