How to Turn Off the Silhouette Kraft Blade Loops

If you've cut with the Silhouette 2mm or 3mm Kraft blades you've probably wished you could turn off those loops at some point.

The loops are what the software uses to tell the machine to turn the blade so it can cut in a different direction. Sometimes, though, they are more trouble than they are worth.
Turning off the extra cut lines, or Smart Loops, will still allow the Silhouette Kraft Blades to turn.  However, instead of moving to an area of negative space, the blade will turn on the axis where it is currently cutting.

You should be aware that by cutting this way - like you would with a traditional Autoblade or Ratchet blade, you may get small cuts on the inside corners of your cuts. This is because of the size of the actual blades, cuts may extend into the design.

Why would you want to turn the Kraft Blade loops off?

Materials cut with the Kraft Blades typically need multiple passes.  The blade makes each loop for every pass creating a lot of excessive loops increasing the risk of messing up your cut and material and also dulling the blade much more quickly.  In the case of thick materials like these the loops actually contributed to the bad cuts.

Alright so knowing all that here's how you turn off the loops.  With your Silhouette machine powered on, connected, and the 2mm or 3mm Kraft Blade in the carriage move to the Send panel.  The software should automatically detect the tool if you are using a CAMEO 4.  In a CAMEO 3 or Portrait 2, when using the 2mm Kraft Blade, you'd have to manually select the tool and action.

When the Kraft Blade is selected as the tool, the Action will by default by Kraft Cut.

Changing the Action to Cut will eliminate the loops.

That's all you need to do to turn off the extra cuts or loops when using the Silhouette 2mm or 3mm Kraft Blade.

Loops needed for the Rotary Blade can not be disabled because the only Action available is "Rotary Cut".

  1. My Studio doesn't show "Cut" as an option under Action, just Kraft Cut. I do have the most updated version of Studio. Is there anything else I can do to add "Cut" as an option?
