6 Materials You Should Cut on a Silhouette Strong Grip Cutting Mat

Among the new 2019 Silhouette products is the Strong Grip cutting mat.

The strong grip mat has a stronger adhesive than the standard cutting mat which is beneficial when cutting certain types of materials - mostly heavy materials - which can easily move while cutting.

While there are more, I'm going to share 6 materials that I am never cutting again without a Silhouette Strong Grip Mat.

You can use the strong grip mat with any of the Silhouette CAMEO machine models. But just know that most of the materials I would recommend you use the Strong Grip mat with are also cut with the 2mm or 3mm Silhouette Kraft Blades - which means you'd need the CAMEO 3 or 4.

However there are some materials on our list that can be cut with the CAMEO 1 and 2 such as chipboard and magnet material.

All but one, is non paper-based material.

Balsa Wood (1.5mm recommended for 2mm Kraft Blade)
Cork
Burlap
Leather
Magnet Material
Chipboard

Both thin and thick fabrics can also be used on the strong grip cutting mat as well as glitter cardstock (those with more of a glossy/waxy-type paper backing work best).

All of these materials can be a challenge to cut due to their thickness, density, or tendency to curl or pop off the mat - which is why the strong grip cutting mat is so beneficial. It keeps them both flat and also in place.

You can watch me demo cutting balsa wood on the strong grip cutting mat in this Facebook Live.  Start at about 3:45 to just watch the part about the strong grip mat.

The Silhouette Strong Grip or high tack cutting mat is currently on pre order and is expected to start shipping in early December.
