Silhouette Studio Library: Adding Keywords for Easy Search

It's back to basics today on Silhouette School!  Weekly contributors Becky and Glenna from My Paper Craze are here with some tips on how to save designs to your Silhouette Studio library so you can find them fast!

Silhouette Studio, keywords, library files

Saving files created in Silhouette Studio is nothing new; it's a fundamental step that we learn in the beginning. But have you ever created a design and not been able to remember what file name you saved it under? If your hand is raised - we've got some tips for you today to save your time and sanity!
This happens to me all the time, I seem to find the most obscure names and have to search through my entire library to find it again. It seems like there should be a way to just search by keyword and find the files I'm looking for... and there is!

First, you have to create your design in Silhouette Studio. In this case, we're revamping our My Paper Craze logo.

Once the design is set up (this is super easy...), go to FILE > SAVE AS > SAVE TO LIBRARY.

Once the dialog box is open, you'll need to look at the right hand side to the EDIT PROPERTIES window and complete the necessary information. File name and Description are pretty obvious, but Keywords is the part that I really wanted to share with you.

Keywords is where you'll list all the keywords you can think of that pertain to this particular cut file. Keywords is what will enable you to search for this particular design without having to remember the exact title! Isn't that exciting? Be sure to list as many keywords as you can think of, better safe than sorry!

I also enjoyed entering my own name in the Artist area, made me feel special.

Next you can try it out! Open your Silhouette Studio library as usual and enter those keywords at the top! Your design will pop up right away! Since you were so generous with your keywords earlier, locating your design will be a piece of cake!

And that's how you can easily keyword and search your Silhouette Studio library!

  2. I do this all the time. However... What if you think of a keyword later to add - is there a way to edit? I haven't figured that part out.

    1. I found that if you right click on a file, then choose edit properties, the window pops up and gives you the window.

Thanks for leaving a comment! We get several hundred comments a day. While we appreciate every single one of them it's nearly impossible to respond back to all of them, all the time. So... if you could help me by treating these comments like a forum where readers help readers.

In addition, don't forget to look for specific answers by using the Search Box on the blog. If you're still not having any luck, feel free to email me with your question.
