I currently have two print and cut machines - a Roland BN2-20A and an iColor 250 - both cost thousands. So when Liene reached out to see if I'd be interested in trying their new sticker printer, I jumped at the chance. I'll be honest the first thing I did when I heard about this machine is rush to Amazon to read the reviews. There was one consistent theme throughout the reviews and that was that the stickers don't stick. The material is not sticky enough. The stickers curl.
This is a big problem if you're a sticker machine.
I decided to see for myself because otherwise the reviews for a low priced print and cut sticker machine were good.
Meet the Liene PixCut S1
The Liene PixCut S1 is a thermal dye-sublimation printer that not only prints stickers and sticker sheets, but also contours cuts them. No registration marks are required since the same machine does both the printing and the cutting. There's also no real software, it's all app based on your phone or tablet. The free Liene app for iPhone and Android is easy to use and fast to install. There's a bunch of free sticker sheet templates in there you can use.
What to Make with the Liene PixCut Sticker Printer
The proprietary sticker sheets are limited to 4x7" so you can make full sheets at that size or you can make individual stickers but they have to fit on that size sheet.
I'm thinking planner stickers, custom labels for small businesses and packaging, party decorations and favors and on the spot sticker creation at craft fairs or markets!
You can also print photos and 4x6" photo paper is also available for the Liene. The quality is really good and the photos print very quickly.
Do You Have to Use Liene Sticker Paper?
One thing worth pointing out, because I tried it and it failed, you can not cut down other sticker sheets and use them in the Liene. The ink needs special paper or sticker sheets to print correctly. When I tried to print on my own sheets, my colors were dull and faded.
The good news though is the Liene sticker printer includes a set of photo paper and sticker sheets along with the ink cartridge so you can start creating immediately.
I quickly got set up and printed my first sheet of stickers.
The stickers printed and cut perfectly..but when I put them on a piece of paper to mimic a planner, the stickers were peeling up within minutes. Soooo disappointing.
I reached out to Liene about this and they suggested I instead use their new sticker paper with the "enhanced adhesion" which is sold separately (why though!). I didn't realize they had also sent me that, so I tried a sheet of that with better - although not perfect - results.
In the image below, the stickers on the left page are using the enhanced adhesive sticker paper, while the stickers on the right page are the standard sticker sheets that come with the Liene printer.
Even with the enhanced adhesive stickers, I would highly recommend you really press all edges of the stickers down hard when applying to the surface to prevent peeling and curling.
Overeall I'd give the Liene print and cut sticker machine a solid B+. I really wish the sticker paper was just a bit stickier still. I also am hoping that Liene comes out with more materials.
What do you think? Is this a craft gadget you'd consider? Would you be interested in more tutorials on how to use the Liene Sticker printer?
