Silhouette Cutting Wrong Size? Here's the Fix

If your Silhouette CAMEO is cutting the wrong size, it can be extremely frustrating.

Fortunately, there's an easy fix to make sure your Silhouette cuts the same size as the dimensions in Silhouette Studio.

The reason the Silhouette cuts the wrong size is due to margin around the image or design in the software. This usually when a PNG file is imported into Silhouette Studio.

You can see in this example the bounding box is not right up against the image itself which means the dimensions of 5.78" x 6.35" are not representing the true size of the design. It's actually slightly smaller.

To get more accurate sizing, use one of the drawing tools - like the Draw a Rectangle tool - to draw out a shape in the size you actually want your image to cut.

Here I drew out a box that's 4" x 3".

You'll use the shape you drew as a guide or almost like a template.

Select the image you are cutting and scale it down (or up) to fit within the shape you drew out.

You want to position your design so that the edges touch the edge of the guide shape. (If it's not exactly the same dimensions as the shape you drew out, just decide which is more important - width or height.)

When you use the guide shape to help size the image, you'll know the cut size of your design will be the intended size because the margin around the design will not be factored in.

Once you get the size of the design how you want it, be sure to delete the guide shape or set it to "No Cut" in the Send Panel or it will cut with the design itself.
