Commercial Use Font Indicator in Silhouette Studio Coming in V4.2...Kinda

As long as I've been writing Silhouette tutorials, people have been asking if there's a way to mark, group or organize their commercial use fonts in Silhouette Studio.

When Silhouette Studio V4.2 is released - it currently remains in beta - the answer will be yes...kinda.

The good news is fonts purchased from the Silhouette Design Store with the commercial use license will be marked with a $ symbol in the Text Style list.

The bad news is commercial use fonts purchased or downloaded from other websites - like So Fontsy - will not get the Commercial Use symbol next to them.

Now here's the thing, while this is a decent attempt at answering a long-standing request by Silhouette users, it's half baked....IMHO.

First of all, while the automatic commercial use symbol is a nice touch it would be nice if it could be applied to all fonts not just those purchased from the design store.

Secondly, given that it only applies to commercial use fonts from the Silhouette Design Store it's not that much different than putting those fonts in a font sub folder called "Commercial Use" which would group all commercial use fonts together. Organizing fonts this way has been available since the release of V4.0 more than a year ago.

And finally...commercial use fonts from the Silhouette Design Store aren't always the greatest deal which makes this feature even less attractive in some situations. For example, the Serif Marker Font with the commercial use license is $14.95 from the Silhouette Design Store and would appear in the Text Style list with the commercial use symbol....

The same font - with the commercial use license - is $3 on So Fontsy. However, it won't appear in Studio with the commercial use identifier since it's from an outside source.

So....you'll have to decide how much that little Commercial Use indicator is worth to you before you decide if purchasing fonts from the Silhouette Design Store is worth it to you.
