Silhouette CAMEO Bluetooth Fixes and New Details on Silhouette Studio V4 Release

If you've experienced Silhouette CAMEO 3 Bluetooth issues - there's good news! Silhouette America released an update to Silhouette Studio V3 late this week to fix several bugs in the software program as well as to stabilize the Bluetooth capabilities.  "The latest version of the software (3.8.088) adds a lot of stability to BlueTooth, so it’s an essential update in my mind," Silhouette America IT Director Tony Anderson tells me.

If you've already downloaded and installed the CAMEO 3 Firmware update you do not need to repeat that part of the process when you update your software.  In addition, if you've already set up Silhouette CAMEO 3 Bluetooth successfully you don't need to go through the step by step process again. You would simply need to update Silhouette Studio software by downloading it from the Silhouette America website and installing it on your computer.

And there's more help on the way - if you've been experiencing the V3.8 software freezing up on you.  "We do, however, have another update on the way which will resolve one of the last major issues with BlueTooth. Specifically, users currently might get issues with the CAMEO 3 freezing up if a very complicated cut job is sent (for example, something with thousands of instructions for the machine)," Anderson says. "We have been toiling over this issue for several weeks, and finally have a working proof-of-concept that fixes the problem, and we’re working on getting it incorporated into a build of the software and testing that build." 
  
There is no confirmed release date on that version of Silhouette Studio V3.8, but Anderson urges, "I highly recommend that everyone with a CAMEO 3 update when they see that version available." 

And if you're wondering what's going on with Silhouette Studio 4 - I'm your girl!  The software issues with the Silhouette Studio CAMEO 3 Bluetooth have actually pushed back the Silhouette Studio 4 release date.  The hope was have it to Beta in July, but at this time of this post (September 1) the beta version has yet to be released to testers (of which I am one). 
 Silhouette Studio V4 has been highly anticipated by CAMEO and Portrait users since it was confirmed that it will include some rather significant changes and much-requested new features - specifically a cutting status bar, improved font displays and the ability to put 'object to path' similar to text to path.

  1. So, I followed your instructions for making sure my DE software is up-to-date, then the firmware instructions. Have the latest and greatest of everything. Bluetooth was a cinch to setup, but the Cameo 3 constantly stops and starts (and it's not what I would consider an extremely difficult cut), says it's done and in fact, it isn't. Have you had a great experience since this latest release (using Bluetooth)? Thank you so much!

  2. Why is this being called Version 4? I just updated my software and it is still saying V3 everywhere. Am I missing something?

    1. From what it sounded like - it's not quite released yet. That's why you have v3 still. :)

    2. It's Silhouette Studio V3.8.088. Silhouette Studio 4 is not out yet. If you have more than one version of Silhouette Studio saved on your computer it will label them as Silhouette Studio 1, 2, etc. I have one that says SS5 :)

  3. All updates installed and blue tooth STILL not working... getting ready to pack up the Cameo 3 and send it back. Last night I could not use the machine at all because it would not switch back to regular cutter no mater how many times I tried to release the cutter. Frustrated & menopausal ... combustible about right now!!!

    2. I am in the same boat. The bluetooth is not recognizing my computer. My computer IS recognizing and is trying to sync to the cameo but keeps erroring out. ARGH!!!

  4. This update came out about a week ago. I installed it then and my Bluetooth still doesn't work. I emailed Silhouette but have not received an answer yet. :-/

    2. Do make sure your computer has bluetooth capabilities - I did have one lady who told me her computer actually didn't and she had to get bluetooth adapter

  5. I haven't upgraded yet. Must have missed the memo about it. I have been having trouble buying designs and checking out. It says your designs will be in your library but when I go to recent downloads it shows nothing. Then they showed up the next morning.
    Customer service when you call is awful sat on hold for almost 45 minutes. Then they tech couldn't answer my question. Their "what's new" are awful also.Seems like more fonts and just words than designs.

    1. Were you able to get the designs you had downloaded? IF you are using a more recent version of Silhouette Studio they would be in your Cloud folder

  6. I am having similar issues with trying to use my Cameo 3. Bluetooth doesn't seem to work properly and I can't upgrade my firmware to version 1.20. Getting very frustrated with this machine and the fact that Silhouette seems to have released it with buggy software.

    1. I have bluetoth capabilities on my laptop and I also bought a dongle. I have updated to V 3.8.8 as well as updated firmware but still no "bluetooth" option on LCD screen. Am thinking of returning to shop to get another one.

  9. I think I might return mine since there's so many issues and I need it to be reliable. It's such a disappointment. I went to Papersource and they were having issues too. Not only does the bluetooth not work on mine, but it also did a crazy cut in the middle of cutting. The people at Papersource had the same issue when I went to the store.

  10. Got a Silhouette Cameo 3 after using the original for years and it won't work at all. It won't load mat and instead makes a horrendous grinding noise.

    1. Is the roller bar down and all the tape and packing removed? There definitely shouldn't be any issue with loading the mat, especially as a brand new machine.

  11. My Silhouette Cameo won't even turn on after doing the firmware update (130). I just got it on Friday after tracking down the FedEx guy. Now when I attempt to turn it on, the blade carriage makes a little move and that is it. The LCD screen doesn't come on either. :(

  12. Why they didn't add WiFi capability? My 3 years old ink jet printer has it. No regrets, I was wondering. Cameo is an extraordinary cutting machine but it can't be easy shared. Everything extraordinary worth being shared :)

  13. I did a firmware update and the machine completed, but when I turned the cameo back on, it wouldnt turn on. It made a quick buzz noise and that was it. Is there a way to re-install the firmware? My computer wont even recognize it when it is connected via USB. Thanks in advance for the help.

  15. I can not get my new Cameo 3 to cut. When I try to send my cut to the machine it says no device is connected...... (It is). HELP!!!! I've given up on Bluetooth! I'm Super frustrated and csnt get the company to respond, offices are closed.....

    1. Brand new Cameo 3 is not recognized when USB is plugged onto laptop. Unknown Device. No help from the "support" people.

      This cutter, for all practical purposes, is DOA.

  16. I'm already to purchase silhouette cameo,after reading all the negative comments about the circuit machines. Figure it's best too get the latest version, being the Cameo 3. After reading about all the bugs and negative comments I'm still searching for best machine to buy. Am I thinking wrong to get the old version of Silhouette?

  18. Hello! I just want to ask if anyone of you experienced my problem in silhouette cameo 3. i am cutting the vinyl very fine but when there is another paper printer attached to my computer where my silhouette plugged, the cutting stops. Any advice would help! Thanks in advance. :)
