Premium HTV Stretch Review & Project Ideas (Silhouette Tutorial)

A couple of months ago I noticed a new type of heat transfer vinyl on Expressions Vinyl.  It's called Premium HTV and since inquiring minds want to know...I reached out to the good people at EV and asked what it was all about.  What makes it so 'premium', after all?

Well it turns out it's biggest brags are its super stretchability, ultra-matte finish and soft, thin texture.
If you've ever put a big ol' HTV design on a shirt you know it can make it a little..'stiff' or bulky, but not this premium HTV.   I told them I think I need to see this for myself so I can tell my fine readers if this is worth the extra dough. So Expressions Vinyl, being the awesome sauce that they are, sent me a few samples to test.
Well.  Let me just tell you...I might be a little excited about this stuff.  I think I may just be a total convert and not buy any other type of HTV anymore. Well, that's not exactly true since glitter Old Gold is like my all time favorite.

Anyway, let's talk about how to use the Premium HTV.  It looks just like regular Siser Easyweed HTV and you cut it the exact same way.   Just put the shiny side down on the mat and cut the design like you normally would.  Here's an HTV 101 lesson if you need it.

You also weed the same way and apply the same way - with a heat press or iron. Basically nothing changes...expect the results after it's applied.

I applied the Premium HTV to this stretchy cotton headband from Punch Place Plus.

Look how the HTV stretches with the fabric when pulled (between a door knob and my hand...don't judge). It doesn't crack or peel off the fabric, which is amazing.

It's also so soft it's difficult to even feel it on the headband, almost like it totally melted into the fabric.  So it works on stretchy cotton - which is awesome and it's like totally functional!  I got lots of compliments when I sported it at the gym recently.

Next I tested the Premium HTV on a bathing suit - which is made of a nylon and spandex fabric.

Sure enough it applied easily with my heat press and even when the bathing suit top falls naturally, the vinyl design doesn't create any stiffness or awkward bending in the area.

Finally I decided to put a large design on a ribbed tank just to see what would happen....need I say more?
