Wondering how to print to your Brother SP-1 sublimation printer from Silhouette Studio?
It's SO easy, fast and direct. Read on for the steps to print your sublimation templates and designs directly to the Brother sublimation printer (and all you need is FREE Silhouette Studio.
Sublimation Printer Prep: Before Your First Print
Like we've talked about many times here at Silhouette Studio you can print to any printer from Silhouette Studio as long as you either have a wired or network connection.
So make sure your computer and the Brother SP-1 are on the same WIFI network or connected by a USB cable. I'm using the network connection because my printer is in the next room.
You also want to make sure that you've downloaded and install the drivers for the Brother SP-1. This should have been done during the initial setup, but if it wasn't, you can follow this driver installation tutorial.
The driver are important because they are basically the print settings and controls that will show up when you go to print.
Printing from Silhouette Studio to Brother SP-1 Sublimation Printer
Open Silhouette Studio.
Immediately go to the File > Print Page Setup option.
Select the Brother SP-1 as the printer.
Return to the Silhouette Studio Design area and open the Page Setup panel. Select the Page Size as "Printer".
Now add in your image, template or design if you haven't already. In this case I'm printing a full wrap for a mug from a custom digital pattern I created. I printed on 8.5" x 11" sublimation paper, but if you're printing a lot of mugs you might want to get sublimation mug paper which is smaller with less waste.
When you're ready to print go to File > Print in Silhouette Studio. Ensure your correct printer is still set.
See all these settings that are collapsed right now? That's what you should see if the driver is installed. If I had another printer selected, like my Epson F170 sublimation printer, the options would look slightly different based on that printer's driver.
Expand each of the sections and make your selections. If you didn't mirror your sublimation image in Silhouette Studio you can do that here - just don't do it in both places or it will not print in reverse which you need for sublimation.
Now click print! Your image will be sent directly from Silhouette Studio to the Brother sublimation printer.
200 seconds later...you've got yourself a perfectly sublimated mug or tumbler.
By the way if you're in the market for a Brother sublimation printer and want to throw in the tumbler press too, this is a good bundle option (and what I used for my sublimated mug).
