FREE Affinity is Here (Thank You, Canva) - What This Means and How to Download

Canva, who owns Affinity, is making the downloadable design software available to anyone and whether you're a crafter or a small shop or a graphic designer this is HUGE news!!

Affinity can be used as a layout and design tool for all kinds of printing including sublimation. If you're a Roland user, free Affinity is a total game changer for cut line creation.

I have been preaching about Affinity Designer for years as the best way to create cut lines for Roland printers. I paid for Affinity Designer (before the free version was offered) without regrets because it's so helpful for adding cut contour lines and Roland perf cut lines.

Affinity does not vectorize well, in my experience, so for creating Roland contour cut lines, I still pair it with Silhouette Studio Business Edition. (Silhouette Studio can't name the required Roland stroke color so that's why Affinity is needed). Now it's available for free for MAC and PC users.

Why is Canva Offering Affinity Free to Download?

Canva now owns Affinity (they have for about a year or two). What they're doing is using Affinity as a way to bring people into the Canva ecosystem. They're offering Affinity completely free - even if you don't have a paid Canva account.

Canva has merged Affinity Designer, Affinity Photo, and Affinity Publisher into one downloadable software. So it looks a little bit different than my older Affinity Designer tutorials and there are a couple of different menus and navigation changes, but all the functionality is still there.

The only thing that's not available is the Canva AI tools. That portal in Affinity is locked unless you have a Canva Pro account.

How to Download Affinity for FREE

Getting Affinity is SO easy. You'll just go to Affinity.Studio in your Internet Browser. Sign in or quickly create a free Canva account and then download the PC or Mac version of the software.

That's literally it. No credit card. No trial period. Just free professional design software.
