How (And Why) to Import Your Silhouette Library to Google Drive

If you're looking for the best place to store your Silhouette files, I will continue to recommend Google Drive.

In this tutorial, which is part of my Safely Storing Your Silhouette Files series, I am sharing details on how to import your Silhouette library into Google Drive.

If you have not yet set up your free Google Drive account or need help setting it up, please check out the first tutorial in this series.

Export a Copy of Silhouette Library (User Created Files)

The next step is exporting your user-created files by going into Silhouette Studio > Library > Click your name > Export User Created Library.

Save the file to your desktop or downloads where you can easily find it.  This will create a series of folders that should look something like this.  Each is a copy of the main file folders in your Silhouette Library.

Inside each folder you'll have more nested folders, along with your files - all in the same folder/file structure as you have in your Silhouette Studio Library.

Importing Silhouette Library to Google Drive

Once you have your Google Drive account set up and the export of your Silhouette Library, you're ready to import the library onto Google Drive.

Sign into your Google Drive account and click +New > New Folder.

Name your library something like "Silhouette Studio Library."

Open the folder. It will be empty right now.

To import your library folders, that you exported in the previous step, you can either drag and drop directly into this folder - or -  you can go to New+ > File Upload.

Select each of the five folders (one at a time) to upload into your Google Drive folder.

Once you click Upload the entire folder with all of your files in it will upload. Don't worry if it says it's going to take a really long time, the time should drop very quickly depending on your network speed.

Once the files are import you'll see the folder system and inside each one you'll have your .studio files or whatever file types you had stored in there in Silhouette Studio's library.

Stored on Google Drive like this, your design files are accessible from whatever computer you use to sign into Google Drive.  That means if you're working on two different computers, get a new computer, or even working between a MAC and PC - all you have to is sign into your Google Drive account to find your Silhouette library.

Keep in mind the library you uploaded is static - it will NOT update along with Silhouette Studio. My suggestion however, is to store any new files in your google drive library instead of Silhouette's library.

Now you might be wondering - how do I open these files in Silhouette Studio? In the next tutorial in this series I'll show you that.
