I've been getting more questions recently from crafters and small businesses asking: What exactly is UV DTF? Read on to learn more UV DTF stickers and how and where to use them.
Similar to DTF transfers, UV DTF transfers are cutless, weedless full color transfers that are printed directly to film.
However - that's about where the similarities between the two direct to film technologies stop.
UV DTF stickers or transfers are a game changing way to customize hard goods and surfaces! They're peel and stick permanent stickers ideal for customizing tumblers, mugs, and glassware..and a whole lot more.
UV DTF stickers are printed and then a UV light is used to cure them. But this isn't just any sticker - the adhesive is SUPER strong making them extremely durable. And the addition of a gloss or varnish layer or layers gives them dimension.
How to Apply UV DTF Stickers
When you print (or purchase UV DTF Stickers) they'll most likely come between two pieces of film.
Let me show you exactly how simple it is to apply these UV stickers.
UV DTF transfer have three layers:
- The backing film (what was printed on)
- The UV DTF sticker itself
- The laminate/transfer sheet on top
Position the sticker EXACTLY where you want it - you really only get one chance here! Once it's in place, firmly rub the design onto your surface with your finger or a scraper tool.
For full wraps on tumblers, start at one edge and carefully wrap around going slowly and burnishing as you go.
Once you've thoroughly rubbed the UV sticker onto the surface, peel away the transfer sheet (the laminate top layer). It's easiest to start at one corner and don't be afraid to use some force if you have to.
Your design is permanently applied and ready to go!
One of the most common questions I get is "will this peel off later?" The answer is a huge NO! These UV DTF stickers are SUPER durable and won't come off, which makes them perfect for items that will be washed or used regularly - even in the dishwasher.
Is UV DTF right for your business?
UV DTF is perfect if you want to customize hard goods like tumblers and mugs and you need something more durable than vinyl or can't layer vinyl. UV stickers are also a good alternative to sublimation if you're looking for a little dimension or the surface is colored, dark, or not poly coated. The other option that is gaining popularity is to order UV DTF prints.
