Teacher Gift Idea: 'Thanks for Helping Me Grow' Flower (Free Studio Cut File)

Did you know that this week is Teacher Appreciation Week?  Totally is..and you're not too late to celebrate your child's teacher.   (And hint, hint Mother's Day and the end of the school year are just around the corner, too.) This is a really quick, easy, and inexpensive teacher gift made even easier by the Silhouette.  Plus, I asked my cousin - who's a teacher - what one of the best gifts she ever received from a student was and she told me a potted plant with a sign reading: "Thanks for helping me grow."  So there you have it...this is a total win!

My son has two pre-school teachers (quite honestly they deserve far more than this little plant for teaching a bunch of two year olds - especially one who calls himself 'Batman'- but I digress) so I picked up two of these little watering cans at Dollar Tree.  I also grabbed a tray of pansies at my wholesale club and had them at the ready.

I quickly typed up my design in Silhouette Studio. One one side is the "Thanks for Helping Me Grow" (I have also seen this with the saying "Thanks for helping me bloom") and the teacher's name on the other side.

These watering cans are pretty small so my design is only about 3" x 3".  I duplicated the design so I could cut both at the same time.

I cut on white indoor vinyl (permanent adhesive would be fine, too) so the text would pop off the bright colored watering cans.  If you haven't worked with vinyl yet or just need a refresher, check out our Vinyl 101 tutorial.

After they cut and I weeded the design, I was able to use my painters tape trick to transfer the vinyl onto the watering cans.  Of course, if you prefer to use transfer tape you can always use that.  On one side I put the saying and on the other the teacher's name.

Then it was just a matter of popping some flower and dirt into the watering cans.  If your watering cans don't have a hole in the bottom (and why would they??) you might consider drilling a water draining hold in the bottom. Just a thought that one of our observant Facebook readers brought up.

Aren't these cute? And they didn't cost me more than a two or three dollars each and that was mostly for the flower!
