The fix is SO simple it is almost silly, and it is probably something you never thought to try, because honestly, why would you?

The blotchy print mystery
I recently printed a batch of magnets. Same design, same surface, same blanks - these are the ceramic magnets that came with my EufyMake E1 UV printer.
But when I looked at them side by side, one magnet looked noticeably worse than the other three. Blotchy areas and uneven color. It almost looked like water droplets had pooled and then dried on the magnet.
The one difference: a white base layer
The only thing I did differently is on three of the magnets, I laid down one single layer of white ink first, underneath the design. On the blotchy one, I did not.
So the Ink Mode for the three good quality UV prints was White > CYMK.
The one that was blotchy was just CYMK....because why would you need a layer of white ink on a white surface...
Why a white layer fixes blotchy prints
Think of that white layer like a primer. It seems to create an even base layer for the colored ink to sit on top of. It gives your colors a consistent, even surface to sit on top of.
This is even more important on porous surfaces like ceramic, wood, or slate where the ink can be absorbed unevenly. The white ink kind of blocks that and acts as an even base layer.
How many white layers do you need?
I tested no white layer against 1 layer of white and then 2 layers of white. What I found is one layer of white is MUCH better than no white, but two will dramatically improve your UV print quality.
If you are printing on something darker, you may need two or maybe three layers to get a solid, even base and block out the color of the substrate.
If you find yourself needing to print more than three layers of white just to get coverage - there's some other issue going on. It's a sign of a white ink problem. First though you should test do a test print to see if your white ink is actually printing - you'd be surprised how many people don't realize it's not working especially on the EufyMake E1 when coming out of maintenance mode. This works on any UV printer
One more important thing - this is not just a EufyMake E1 tip. The white base layer principle applies to UV printing across the board to avoid blotchy prints.
Whether you are running an EufyMake, an xTool O1 Omni UV Printer an Epson, a Procolored, or any other UV printer, laying down that white base is one of the easiest ways to instantly improve your print quality.
