Bad cuts aren't always a blade issue. They can also be caused by how the mat and material are loaded in your Silhouette machine. The good news is there's a quick fix!
The biggest culprit: how you load the mat
Most CAMEO 4 and 5 users load their mat by holding it with one hand and pressing the Load button with the other. The problem is the one handed load is often why cuts are misaligned. When you hold the mat with just one hand, you can unintentionally put slightly more pressure on one side (usually the left) than the other. As the CAMEO pulls the mat in, that uneven pressure causes one side to roll through a fraction of an inch ahead of the other. You probably won't notice it until after the cutting begins.
As your machine keeps moving the mat back and forth, it starts to drift until eventually one side of the mat isn't even under the right pinch roller anymore. That's how your cuts end up crooked.
Then use both hands to line up the left edge of the mat with the guide on your machine while covering the mat sensor prompting the machine to feed the mat in automatically.
Other things to check before blaming your blade
If you've fixed your mat loading and cuts are still off, there are a few other things to rule out before you replace your blade. If the blade depth is set incorrectly on your blade, specifically if there's too much blade exposed, it can also cause problems that look like misalignment. When the blade cuts too deep it can drag the material along with it while it cuts instead of splicing through the material. Don't walk away from your machine while it's cutting. Watch to make sure the material and mat aren't moving at all.
Don't give up on your CAMEO
Misaligned cuts are a frustrating waste of time and material but in most cases, the fix is quick and easy. Work through the list beginning with mat loading first, then mat condition, material adhesion, blade depth, and material type and you should be able to figure out what's causing the issue without replacing anything more than the mat.
If you're still stuck after that, or you want to see exactly how to load the mat the right way with a visual walkthrough, the full video on Silhouette U shows the whole process in under four minutes.
