How to Setup Brother Sublimation Printer Drivers and WIFI Printing

There's two parts to the Brother SP-1 Sublimation printer setup: the printer setup and the network connection and driver installation.

In part 1 of the Brother SP1 set up, we went through the printer setup.  In this tutorial I'll walk you through exactly how to get your sublimation printer connected to your network so you can print wirelessly as well directly from any software program!

If you haven't already completed the printer setup for the Brother SP-1 do that first. Before you start printing, there's a few more steps.

Step 1: Connecting to the WIFI Network for Wireless Printing

First, you can connect the printer to your computer using a USB cable, of course. But it's also super easy to connect it to WiFi so you don't need to be directly next to the printer to print - you just need to be on the same network.

On the printer's display: Go to Settings

Then click "Network"

Next click WLAN(Wifi).  If you get a prompt asking to disconnect from a wired connection, click Yes.

Select your WiFi network from the list. Then just enter your network's password.

You should get a confirmation message when the network connection is established.

Step 2: Installing Drivers and Software

Now it's time to install the Brother sublimation printer drivers on your computer.  The drivers are basically the print settings. When the drivers are installed you'll be able to find the settings for this specific sublimation printer anytime you go to File > Print regardless of the program you're using.

To install the drivers, go to this Brother support page.  Click "Downloads" for the SP-1.

Select your computer type and operating system.  The Brother SP-1 works with both Mac and PC.

Download the full software package to your computer then open the installer and follow the prompts.

When it asks for the Connection Type, select Wireless Network Connection.

The installer should find your printer automatically.

Step 3: Print a Test Print

Find any PNG file on your computer and simply click to open it. I'm on a MAC and my image previewer is what I'm using. (Literally no special software or anything).

Go to File > Print.

Select the Brother SP-1 from the list of available printers.

The settings you see here are because you installed the drivers.
  • Select US Letter (or whatever size paper you're using)
  • Set Media Quality (I don't recommend Auto)
  • Turn on 'Mirror' the option
  • Click Print

The image will be sent to the printer and will print.  This one took about 2 minutes. I don't find the Brother SP-1 sublimation printer to be the fastest printer, but it among the easiest to use.
