I recently stumbled across the realization that glass can UV DTF wraps work perfectly on handled 40oz tumblers!
The 40oz tumblers I'm using are the poor smart crafters alternative to Stanleys. They come in a bunch of different styles and colors with lids and straws and they start under $6 if you can believe that. Read on for how to decorate these tumblers with handles with standard size UV DTF can wraps and then sell them at a massive profit!
Will Glass Can Wraps Actually Fit on 40 oz Tumblers?
UV DTF wraps designed for glass cans are the perfect size for standard glass cans - they meet exactly all the way around. But on 40 oz handled tumblers they obviously won't go ALL the way around because of the handle. That actually works in your favor though. The handle creates a natural break that makes the design look intentional.
The key though is that the 40 oz tumbler has to have a handle.
I love the flip top style tumblers, but the UV DTF wrap won't work with these because it leaves too much of an awkward gap.
Ok so grab your handled tumblers - I'm using the Matte Modern II in Orange but there are several other styles and colors and finishes including matte, glossy, and shimmer. You can get them as singles or in bundles.
Where to Get UV DTF Wraps for Tumblers
Pick up your favorite UV DTF Wraps. There are lots to pick from at So Fontsy.
I also find a cup cradle to be incredibly helpful. It prevents the tumbler from rolling around while you're trying to apply the wrap.
Prepare your UV DTF wrap
UV DTF wraps come with TWO layers - the UV DTF itself that's on a transfer sheet and a protective backing liner. The top layer is the transfer sheet (this gets peeled away later). The bottom layer is the protective backing (this gets removed first). And sandwiched in between is your actual sticky design.
Place the wrap, print side down, evenly across the cradle. Place the tumbler with the handle straight up on top. Make sure it's all centered and even.
Now use the small area of the DTF wrap that you've exposed as an anchor or hinge to attach to your tumbler. This piece should be near the handle on one side.
Work Slowly Around the Tumbler
Slowly peel away the liner as you work the rest of the way around the tumbler. You can use the scraper tool or your finger to press and smooth as you go.
Once the entire wrap is stuck to the tumbler, go back over it with your scraper tool.
Peel Away the Transfer Sheet
Finally, peel away that top transfer layer. Think of that like transfer tape when you're moving vinyl to a substrate. If you see tiny elements (like little hearts or small text) starting to lift, stop and press them back down with your finger or scraper. Don't be surprised if you have to pull a bit hard to get the transfer sheet off, it's super sticky for a reason.
That's it! Your UV DTF wrap is now permanently applied to your 40 oz tumbler! I love how the handle creates a natural separation instead of making it seem like the can-size wrap isn't actually intended for a tumbler.
Where to get UV DTF Wraps and Tumblers
If you don't have your own UV DTF printer (and most people don't!), you can order ready-made UV DTF wraps at So Fontsy.I put together a tumbler starter bundle for you using all of the tumblers I grabbed! You can get it here.
