If you've been stuck using only the default fonts in XCS, this tutorial is going to blow your mind. You can literally use ANY font that's installed on your computer - and I'm going to show you exactly how to do it.
There's a difference between downloading a font and installing it:
Download = pulling the font file from a website (like So Fontsy) so the file itself is AVAILABLE on your computer.
Why custom Fonts Matter for Laser Engraving
The fonts that come with xTool Creative Space are fine, but by adding your own fonts to XCS you're giving yourself far more options to customize when laser cutting or engraving.
Plus if you're running a business you'll be able to give your customers more choices in the way of fonts.
Download and Install Fonts on your Computer
Just like with Silhouette studio, any font that's downloaded and installed on your computer will automatically show up in xTool Creative Space.
Installing = actually putting that font onto your computer's font system (like Font Book) so different software programs can access it.
To install a font, simply double-click the font file and click "Install." (Mine says replace because I already have this font installed). You'll see it appear in your computer's font library.
It's also possible to install fonts in bulk and that comes in really handy when you want to take advantage of those huge font bundles! I installed 111 fonts in 2 minutes and you can see exactly how in this video.
Restart xTool Creative Space
This step is crucial and a lot of people miss it! If xTool Creative Space was already open when you installed the new font or fonts, you have to re-start the software for the fonts to appear in the font style list. Now in xTool Creative Space you can use the text tool to start a text box then tab down the list of fonts to get a preview of how your text looks in each font.
