If you've been looking for Mac friendly small business equipment to scale your business, Roland just opened a big door!
Roland recently released Roland Versaworks 7 and it's compatible with both MAC and PC. It doesn't, however, work with all Roland equipment. Read on to find out which machines and printers are MAC compatible.
Finding RIP software that is MAC compatible can be hard to come by. Many MAC users who go into the printing and transfer business end up getting a PC just to run their equipment.
Other than Epson it's nearly impossible to find a MAC-friendly DTF printer, for example. But Roland now has one...and a lot more! Before I get to the all of the equipment that's now MAC friendly, let me explain why some Roland printers are still PC only.
Ethernet Connection Requirement
The MOST important thing to understand is that VersaWorks 7 for Mac will ONLY work with Roland machines that have an Ethernet connection. This is the key technical requirement that determines compatibility. It's the reason that Roland BN-20A is NOT compatible, but the BN2-20A is. The older model, BN-20A has a USB connection, but not an ethernet connection.
MAC Compatible Roland Machines
Here's a breakdown of which Roland machines work with VersaWorks 7 on Mac.
- Roland GS2-24 - 22" cutting machine
- Roland BN2-20A and BN2-20 - 20" ecosolvent printer and cutter
- Roland BY-20 - 20" DTF Printer
- Roland BD8 - Desktop UV DTF Printer
- TrueVis Series - Large Format printers and cutter available in various ink configurations including ecosolvent, resin, and latex
All of these models have an ethernet connection. The path I use from my BN2-20A to Mac is: Ethernet Cable > Ethernet to USB Adapter > USB to USBc Adapter > Mac.
You can make it easier on yourself and just get an Ethernet to USBc adapter.
What this means is there's now a MAC-friendly option for small businesses to run almost any type of printer or cutter from an ecosolvent print and cut to UV DTF.
