DIY Shoe Clips: 4 Fun Silhouette Projects

A few weeks ago I discovered the DIY shoe clip 'kits' on Punch Place Plus website and I just knew I had to try them out.  The colorful alta claps, which sell for $4.25 for a pack of 25,  were just screaming for some vinyl.  Once I got them and the clip (sold separately), I realized I could make so much more than just vinylized-shoe clips.

DIY, do it yourself, shoe clip, Silhouette Cameo

I started playing around and here are a few fun ways I turned some acrylic alta discs and clips into fun accessories, for boys, girls, and babies!

Silhouette Studio Trace and Detach Tool to Make Print and Cuts

Vector graphics are amazing for print and cuts IF you know this little trick known as the Silhouette Studio Trace and Detach tool.  What's even better is if you can find a huge set of vectors, like this one from Mighty Deals, where you get 500+ vectors, with the commercial license, for less than $20.

Silhouette Studio, Silhouette tutorial, trace and detach tool, print and cut

The first thing you need to do to turn your vector graphics into Print and Cuts is to import the vector image into Silhouette Studio.  I went over this process in great detail in this tutorial so I will breeze through it here, but if you need a refresher check this Silhouette School tutorial out.

DIY Shaker Card Tutorial with Silhouette

Silhouette Cameo, Silhouette tutorial, DIY, do it yourself, shaker cardAre you familiar with Shaker cards? If you're not a paper crafter, you might not have seen these yet, but they are sssoooo cool and fun. Shaker cards have been around for quite some time and can be created using a variety of materials.  They're basically a 3D card that has a clear window where you place little rhinestones, confetti or charms that shake...hence the name.

Today Silhouette School contributors, Glenna and Becky from My Paper Craze, are in the classroom sharing an easy shaker card tutorial with us. They're going to show us just how easy it is to make one with your Silhouette and items you probably already have in your crafting stash. No need to run to the store to make a last minute shaker card!

The Ultimate Silhouette Guide - Now Available in Paper Back

Ultimate Silhouette Guide, Silhouette Cameo, Silhouette tutorial
I'm excited to announce that due to popular demand I have self published "The Ultimate Silhouette Guide" in paper back - and it's available starting today!

In the months since March 2015 when I launched 'The Ultimate Silhouette Guide' I have had a lot of requests for what many have called referred to as the 'Silhouette CAMEO Dummies book', to be issued in paper back in addition to the original ebook version.

The paper back copy of the book has only been slightly modified from the digital version - things like clickable links and an interactive table of contents have been removed - for obvious reasons.  Everything else remains the same.

However, while "The Ultimate Silhouette Guide" is now available in paper back, I am really still encouraging Silhouette users to consider the ebook version for several reasons:
  1.  Due to things such as mass printing and distribution costs (which are non existent with an ebook version) the paper back is being sold at a slightly higher price point of $33.99.
  2. Also, again due to complications that don't come into play with the digital ebook version, the paper back copy can't be updated nearly as frequently or as easily.  So when significant enough changes occur to the Silhouette machine and/or software, such as the software changes and updates expected later this year, I will write an appendix to the ebook.  Unfortunately, these updates won't be available to those with the paperback version.
Thinking about which version to get?  Here's what people are saying:

"Thank you so much for all your hard work. Silhouette School is awesome and so is the book. Silhouette ought to buy your book and include it with every Silhouette Cameo!!!!" - Rita

"It is so easy to understand when reading it. You have changed the crafter's world of Silhouette cutting with this book. Thank you." - Angie
"...BUY the EBOOK best $27.99 you will spend. I wasted more money in material messing things up before The Silhouette School became my BFF." - Michele

"I just bought this book this morning and I thought I was pretty good at my machine. Oh my....I've already learned even more. You can not go wrong! Buy this book. I can't believe everything you have put in this book!" - Kim

"Melissa, you are a godsend! Finally everything is in one place, easy to find and easy to understand instead of on a gazillion notes scattered around my craft room. I know I'll be using my Sil a lot more now. Thank you so much!"

How to Crop Photos in Silhouette Studio (in 2 easy steps)

If you use Silhouette Studio as an editing and design software - as you should - and not just a program to cut designs, you may have come across a project where you need to crop a photo. I love working with photos in Silhouette Studio and it’s easy to do.

Silhouette Studio, cropping photos, Silhouette tutorial

For this tutorial I’m going to be cropping some door photos that I took while in Barcelona last month. This is just the first step in my full project, which I’ll reveal soon on the blog. Believe me you don’t want to miss this one!

The Ultimate Silhouette Guide: Book News, Free Updates & Free Chapter (Limited Time!)

Ultimate Silhouette Guide, Silhouette Cameo, Silhouette tutorial
Three months ago today I launched 'The Ultimate Silhouette Guide'.  In those three months more than 3,500 copies of the ebook have been sold...and lots of things have happened on the book front.

For one thing, I've been getting lots of questions so today I thought I'd answers the most FAQ:

Will 'The Ultimate Silhouette Guide' be updated?

Yes! When significant enough changes occur to the Silhouette machine and/or software, such as the software changes and updates expected later this year, I will write an appendix to the ebook.

It will be offered as a free downloadable PDF file, like the ebook, to anyone who has purchased the digital version of the 'The Ultimate Silhouette Guide'. When it becomes available, an update will automatically be sent as a free download link to the email address or paypal email used at the time of purchase. I will post an update on the blog announcing the release of an update.

Is 'The Ultimate Silhouette Guide' only available as an ebook?

At the moment, yes.  However, you can have it printed and bound (Need a print consent? Just ask!) and you can also read it on an iPad.

Will the book ever be released in hard copy?

Font-abulous Deal on a 50 Silhouette-friendly Fonts

Well you all pretty much went wild for The Hungry JPEG's font deal last month so I figured I'd bring you more of where that came from. This month's deal is even bigger with 50 fonts for just $29! That's the biggest font bundle ever offered on The Hungry JPEG!
This is a sponsored post, but as always all opinions are my own.
And not only that but most of these fonts are super unique! There are some really beautiful water color-ish fonts including Snowberry and Rombledrop.

I think what I like best about Rumpledrop is all the glittery extras that come with it!! Be still by glitter gold loving heart!!!  These 12 gold patterned digi papers have me drooling!

I always love to have a great script font in my back pocket- especially one that comes with the commercial license, as these all do! How beautiful is Evelyn?

And Hollyhock and Bundt Cake just sweeten the deal!

And can we talk about Picnic and Caps for a second here...I mean have you ever seen a font like this? So cute for summer!

Those are just a few of the amazingly beautiful fonts that are part of this month's deal. Here's a look at the full set!

As I mentioned they're all Silhouette-friendly and they call come with the commercial license.  Basically all you have to do is download, install, and open up Silhouette Studio and they'll be there for you to use. Then just create something beautiful and you're free to sell it with any of these fonts.

What are you waiting for? As is the case with all The Hungry JPEG deals, this font deal is only good through the end of the month.  Don't wait, grab it now. It's font-abulous!
