Wood Doll House and Peg People with Silhouette Clothes & Decor (Free Cut Files)

In case you didn't pick up from my Instagram feed, my kids are home for the summer...trying to work full time from home with two little shadows can be a challenge.  But...things got a whole lot easier when I recently discovered these awesome new kids crafting kits at Jo-ann Fabrics. Jennifer Garner introduced her new, We Made It, line recently - and there's something for kids with pretty much any interest.

This is a sponsored post, but as always all opinions are my own.
My six year old daughter is really into crafting and likes to use my Silhouette so when Joann Fabrics offered to have us test out the wooden doll house, we jumped at the chance.  Plus I knew we could make it extra special by really personalizing it with some Silhouette goodies.

Not that you'd need to use your Silhouette at all - it comes with everything you need to make an awesome carry-along doll house - including VINYL! Hello, it's like they KNEW!!

The We Made It Doll house includes markers, a 6 person peg family, vinyl for clothes and decor, a set of re-usable adhesive-backed stencils, paint and paint foams.

Instead of painting the rooms, we decided to make them a little more detailed. I found a Print and Cut doll house (Design ID #3454 ) in the Silhouette Design Store that worked perfectly.  It came in as one design, but I ungrouped it so I could print and cut each room individually.  Here's what the original Silhouette Design Store design looked like...

I measured each 'room' of the doll house and then sized the "wall paper" in Silhouette Studio so it would fit perfectly.

Now here's the thing...with the size each print and cut needed to be, only one room fit on the work space with registration marks.

But remember, my little trick to get a lager print area? Well, by moving the registration marks out and thickening them up a little bit I was able to fit two rooms on a sheet!

I added cut lines to the edge and then we printed on my favorite alternative to sticker paper: Avery full sheet shipping labels.

Then I placed the first sheet on the Silhouette cutting mat and had the machine cut out each room background.  The bottom registration mark was slightly cut off so I used a sharpie to draw it in - and the machine detected it just fine. Tricky tricky...but it worked.

This gave my daughter four large stickers to place on the 'wall' of each room of her doll house.  She has a kitchen, bathroom, living room and bedroom.

After I did the initial work of the print and cut she was able to peel off the stickers and place them into the doll house.

Now for the adorable wood peg family...the poor guys and gals needed some clothes.  Lucky for us the kit came with several sheets of vinyl. I created a cut file for the boy/man's clothes and cut them on the vinyl.

For the lady and girls, I found a free design for Peg People Dress on the blog Plenty of Paprika which I simply traced in Silhouette Studio.  That too was cut on one of the pieces of vinyl from the kit.

NOTE: Dora from Plenty of Paprika blog has been so generous, she has offered Silhouette School readers a set of FREE Disney Princess-inspired peg doll clothes SVG cut files that you can print and cut. (Tip: Print and cut on sticker paper so they stick to the peg dolls!)  You can see how adorable these Princess Peg People are when they're all dressed here.

Just remember, they're already sized correctly so if you have to trace to get cut lines around them, don't resize.  Also, these are for personal use only!!!

My daughter was able to peel off the vinyl clothes and wrap the wooden peg people herself. She had so much fun dressing them.  She decorated some with the vinyl clothes, and some with the washi-like tape that's included in the kit.

After she dressed them, she used the enclosed markers and yarn to add faces and hair.

For the front or outside of the house, my daughter used the paints that came with the kit to decorate the wooden box.

After the first layer of paint was dry she placed some of the reusable adhesive-backed stencils that come with the We Made It kit onto the front so she could easily and neatly paint on a door, flower pot and windows.

And it was barely dry before she started playing with it...everywhere! ;)

I just love how it all came out.  The wooden dollhouse kit certainly comes with everything you need, but the extra special touches we added with the Silhouette make it that much more fun!

The wooden dollhouse kit is just one of 100 creative kits and projects in the We Made it by Jennifer Garner collection.  The new lines is exclusive to Joann Fabrics and is available in select stores and online. If you have a little baker, a pint size crafter or a budding gardener, the entire line of We Made It products is the perfect way to keep them busy and creating on a budget.

Thanks for coming to class today at Silhouette School.  If you like what you see, I'd love for you to pin it!

  1. Yet another great idea!! It would be fun to create different inserts for the house, just in case the dolls wanted to go to another location or friend's house, too! :)
    Great job :)

  3. A lot of blogs I see these days don't really provide anything that I'm interested in, but I'm most definitely interested in this one.
